I was recently on a cancelled flight from Europe and was offered EU261 compensation:
1. 600e cash
2. 50000 miles
3. $1000 travel certificate...needs to be booked, but not travelled, within 12 months.
I don't fly a ton, but do go to Germany to see family at least once, and with age/health issues (not mine, theirs), probably twice annually.
I don't have many United Miles (10K), but do have 200K in UR points.
I like taking Business Class (doh!), but it's not a deal breaker...taking a few Xanax gets me through any flight. And it's now 80K one way, and hard to find the nonstop redemption.
Lufthansa (partner) has the only non-stop to FRA from LAX, which would be my usual route.
United already gave me $600 in Travel Certificate as an apology, so I have that. For $1600, I can probably get any economy (with extra legroom?) flight.
Thanks for any advice...it was easier last summer when AA just offered the cash!
Did you submit a 261 “complaint” or was the above offer proactive? If you did submit how long did it take to receive the offer above? Thanks
