SCL is one of the origins for which you must claim your bags and re-drop - at least it has been for the past couple of years. Formerly, all all int'l / int'l connections needed redrop, but now several are exempt. SCL hasn't been one of them - at least as of a few months ago (there's a large sign as you enter the baggage claim area which ones you need to claim).
