Ok, did not know about that as I've been basically with status my last 20+ years with BA/OneWorld therefore for me it has always been complimentary from time of reservation.
On the other hand, I guess they are going in this direction as they are not able to "squeeze" money out from pax and especially us Elite pax for seat selection - so they are going to the extreme.
