BA248 - 30/01/25 - Reason for Cancellation

Hi,

I was supposed to be on BA248 tonight from GIG - LHR. But the flight has been postponed until tomorrow.

Check in was late opening. The check in staff said one of the pilots was feeling unwell and BA were trying to find a replacement.

Eventually, they allowed everyone to check in and told us to go straight to the gate.

While waiting at the gate, we all got email or text messages advising that the plane would need to refuel in Madrid.

Then about 30 minutes later, they advised that the flight would not be leaving until the following evening, I.e. 31/01/2025.

We all had to pick up our suitcases and were given accommodation for the night.

Does anybody know what actually happened? The flight starts in Buenos Aeries, before picking up in Rio. So I assume it was one of the crew on that flight that was unwell.

We understood a replacement pilot was found and that was why they checked us all in. Did BA later decide there was an issue with the replacement pilot? Also what was the reason for stopping in Madrid, was that due to pilot hours maybe?

I’m probably going to be delayed more than 24 hours. I assume I’ll be able to claim flight delay compensation?
