We did an I=>I transit at TPE two weeks ago and it was almost too easy.

We disembarked our JX SEA-TPE flight and at the end of the jet bridge inside the terminal, a JX staff member directed transit passengers to a separate line. Once at the end of said line, she checked our onward BPs and passports and then we walked through the empty lower level gate area, walked up the stairs and were dumped up into a upstairs level gate area. I was expecting a security check of some sorts but I was genuinely shocked when we got to the top of the stairs and found ourselves already on the departures level.

Contrast that with an I=>I connection at NRT T2 which involved the more traditional security check with X-ray machines and all that.
