It is the default behaviour on single ticket overnight connections for luggage to be held overnight.

On separate tickets (and airlines), even if BR tags the bags through, I think you are substantially increasing the risk that the bag doesn't get loaded early in the morning. It should work, but personally I would probably pick up and recheck myself.
