There's scammy taxi and Uber drivers in Dubai too. Many will say that they don't accept credit cards which is a total lie for them to get cash or they say it's broken. Personally I always catch Uber. And with Uber, some drivers swap cars so when the driver shows up it will be a different car and license plate. That prompted me to always use a code to confirm the driver.
That was a few years ago. I'll be going back later this year. But every year I've traveled there I've experienced issues generally with taxi drivers at the cruise port. And that's why there are signs posted to report them.
No matter which country you go to there's taxi scams. And don't get a black taxi from the airport and pay even more.
