That’s a strange way to protest UA’s monetization of the F cabin.
Even with Platinum status, I get complimentary upgrades on Delta on the short routes I fly (MFR-SLC, MFR-DEN, MFR-SEA) about 80% of the time. On the longer routes, I've been able to book upgrades in advance, unlike United where PN space has completely vanished.
On Alaska, I just buy First. It's cheap and the FAs are really nice 99% of the time.
