I insisted they check the TIM issued to airlines and after about 30 minutes they eventually conceded that it was possible after all.
It sounds like you might have unintentionally confused them with your explanation, but you ultimately figured out it's imperative for the check-in people to key your credentials into their terminal themselves so they can conclude that you are compliant.
