I insisted they check the TIM issued to airlines and after about 30 minutes they eventually conceded that it was possible after all.
​​​​​​It sounds like you might have unintentionally confused them with your explanation, but you ultimately figured out it's imperative for the check-in people to key your credentials into their terminal themselves so they can conclude that you are compliant.

Btw, I reread your post several times and you didn't even mention the proof of onward travel. This is a CRITICAL piece of the puzzle for anyone who fancies utilizing this scheme.
