I believe it is often a hit or miss with the Star Alliance Gold benefits on Avianca flights. Very much up to the agent that you talk to. In the past I had no issues getting a free checked bag on domestic flights in Colombia as TK Gold even when on the cheapest possible fares (XS fares).

There has been reports in the past that if your ticket was issued by AV in Colombia or Ecuador there would be a free checked bag included but it may have changed recently (the thread above suggests that).

Anyway, most likely it would have been far cheaper to select s fare from the outset that allowed a free checked bag; the surcharge for such fare compared to the cheapest possible fare (without checked luggage) should be nowhere near 125 USD.
