I was there in September, and from what I can tell, the visa they give you for the hotel is only to enter the hotel. You can’t leave the hotel, but I did not try as I was so tired.

If you want to stay airside I don’t see why you wouldn’t be allowed to do that no matter how long your layover is. In order to get the hotel you had to go up to the agents desk.
