So I booked a ticket BKK-AMS in PE via SIN and now I am staying an extra night in Singapore thanks to the nearly non-existing communication between Scoot and SQ. The first flight was operated by Scoot in ScootPlus, the second one should be operated by SQ but I missed it. So what happened and what went wrong:
- I specifically selected a B787 scoot flight between BKK and SIN to be in ScootPlus with my PE fare. It was also nice that the connection was 5 hours, so some time to visit some lounges.
- It was really hard to choose a seat and meal at Scoot because the link to Scoot in SQ MMB didn't work and the combination first name and last name and special Scoot PNR was a weird combination. But after chatting they told me the combination and it worked. At least I thought so, because in the plane I was told I did not order a dish and they did not have the dish I wanted.. Okayy
- A couple of months before the flight I received an email from SQ telling me that the flight time from BKK to SIN did change 10 minutes. Nothing else was in the email so I didn't think much of it.
- When I checked my itinerary on the SQ website a couple of weeks before the flight it stated that I was downgraded to economy on that first leg. I booked via an OTA (yes, I know!) but Scoot/SQ did only share with them the new flight times but not that I was downgraded. So for them I was still in ScootPlus/PE and they wouldn't help me.
- After calling a couple times and begging in the chat SQ decided to finally take over the ticket and help me to move to another flight that had ScootPlus. A 1.45h connection. A bit tighter connection, but not too tight, so I thought...
- So you guessed it, the incoming flight was delayed and we had a one hour delay already at check-in. 10 minutes before that new departure time we started boarding and everyone was sitting 15 minutes later, so we could leave with a delay of one hour and 5 minutes. But we didn't. Because they decided to wait 15 minutes for some passengers who never showed up. And no they didn't have check in luggage. So now we had a delay of 1 hour and 20 minutes.
- In the SQ app there was never a delay mentioned for my Scoot flight by the way. It even said the flight landed while we were still in the air (yes I used the spectacular 30MB voucher for this)
- Of course we did have to do some circles before we could land and dock at gate D41 where the door opened 27 minutes before the departure time of my next flight...
- On the jet bridge there was someone with a sign with my name saying I had to go to gate A16 and they would wait a maximum of 10 minutes extra for me but I had to run. Yes, D41 is practically at the other end of the airport than A16 but I should be able to make it, right?
- So I ran from gate D41 to gate A16 (and took the train in between) to arrive at the gate 8 minutes late where they told me that the gate was closed. No 10 minutes extra waiting time at all. I had to go to the A transfer desk to get another flight.
- The only one that really helped was the guy at the transfer desk, he even tried to get me on the KL flight 2 hours later but there was no PE inventory. Other options were not practical or multiple hours in economy and I would arrive after my office hours anyway, so I ended up with the same flight the next day.
- To get a hotel voucher however, I had to go to transfer desk D because Scoot had to do this. Yes the one right beside gate D41... So I had to go all the way back to get a hotel voucher. When I arrived the counter was closed.. but luckily someone saw me and knew I was coming. He told me that SQ had told Scoot that they would hold the plane 10 minutes but they never communicated this to the gate.
- The hotel they have put me in is okayish by the way. There is wear and tear and I would not have booked it myself but for one night I can live with it.
So I will never ever buy a SQ/Scoot codeshare again because when anything goes wrong everything goes wrong. I am thinking about if I will fly SQ again all together. What a complete ....-show.
