One other thing to remember on foreign rentals: credit card coverage has MSRP limit on covered cars: basic level is often at 50K, while premium car protections can be $75K and $100K with exclusion of specific car classes like full-size SUV.

Some countries have insane taxes on cars - for example, The Netherlands, Denmark, Singapore, Hong Kong.
You can rent a boring car like a full-size Volvo and exceed the limit. Especially a few years ago when Euro currency was worth something.
So, when picking up a car abroad, always check the total loss value listed on the contract - and make sure it is within the covered limit at the current exchange rate.
