So are you saying that an 086xxxx ticket that shows an NZ flight number but is operated by SQ (*A partner airline) earn NON-METAL status points?

It's so confusing to those of us that don't know the ins and outs. The website refers to the "metal" requirement in plain English as:

Do you really need to look up pages and pages to work out which flights are qualifying and which are not? How does Joe Public know that the flight above isn't a "Star Alliance qualifying flight"?
my interpretation could be wrong but this is how i view it:

- If i want NZ (metal) status points, I book on an Air NZ operated flight (aka the plane is NZ)
- if i want to use an RU/EAPDU, I book with Air NZ so I have an 086 issued ticket AND on an Air NZ plane.
- if i want to use mySQUpgrade, I book with SQ to get an SQ issued ticket on an SQ plane

To the people not chasing status, it doesn't matter imo because you choose the cheapest flight or best connection, but to those that do, at the very least when booking on the airnz app/website, you should be able to notice the difference in estimated status points before you even put your payment details.

TLDR: Air NZ metal means you're on a NZ plane, again there are exceptions with the qualifying partner flights with CA/CX/UA
