I think he means how they give it 10 weeks after renewal rather than on anniversary like they do with IHG and Marriott
That's not called clawing it back though. It's what Amex does for annual FNCs on their Marriott and Hilton cards so that people don't get the certificate on the anniversary and then cancel the card before they need to pay their AF.
