Does Kroger inflate their full-retail gas prices and then offer all sorts of ways in the store to "earn" cents-per-gallon discounts? That's what Hyvee does around here. And Hyvee went from being the "value" grocery store a few years ago to premium pricing for almost everything. More than its competitors by far.
The gap between Costco gas and Quiktrip gas usually runs about 8-10 cents in Missouri. Quiktrip offers a flat 25 cents per gallon discount for directly linking a bank account for payment. So on the whole, the two work out to being close enough to even that I just use whichever is most convenient when I happen to need gas.
