My husband and I just flew middle seats together last week. All the rows are the same in the middle (same table/seating configuration). There is a small, sliding pass through window that is opened for you when you are seated next to someone you know. It is a small window, but big enough to converse and know what one another are up to, but nothing like sitting next to each other in a q-suite (Qatar). The pass through is up high between elbow/shoulder height. But we found it enough to chat here and there.
