Hotel Review: Hampton by Hilton Bath City – Clean Rooms and Great Breakfast

This is a fuller review to the one I published back in October.

There’s no parking close to the hotel so you need to drop off luggage while in the bus parking bays just down the road from the hotel.

Now this was no problem when we visited in September. The weather was nice enough and there was only a light drizzle. However, I imagine if the rain was heavy, it would have been a much less pleasant experience.

Parking is available just down the road (maybe 200m) at the Southgate car park for £15.00 per 24hrs. It’s underground, is well lit, clean and felt safe.

There is no onsite parking at the Hampton by Hilton Bath City, but the Southgate car park was within walking distance

It’s very close to Kingsmead Square which has a number of decent restaurants – but to be fair Bath is pretty small to begin with so you don’t need to worry about getting around.

When I was looking for hotels I looked at both the Hampton by Hilton and the Double Tree. Based on reviews it seemed that the Hampton was the preferred options. So as usual I booked direct with the hotel rather than through an online travel agent like Expedia or Booking.com

I realise this is a new hotel, but it was nice to see that it was clean, well maintained and modern and that also includes the corridors which usually have scuff marks. It wasn’t very busy but check in seemed to take longer than other places I’ve used. Nevertheless we eventually got our keys are headed to the room. As was the case with the Hilton London Metropole, breakfast was surprisingly included, but who am I to complain?!

How was the room? As with the rest of the hotel, the room was clean and well maintained with modern styling. While the room was quite tight, the bed was large enough and comfortable while the bathroom was spotlessly clean throughout.

The room at the Hampton by Hilton Bath City had a modern feel

The bathroom was a bit small but was clean and well maintained at the Hampton by Hilton Bath City

Breakfast

Breakfast is served in the lobby area. There are plenty of seats and tables but when it gets busy it can be quite problematic to get a seat!

Breakfast was pretty good, given the reputation Hampton’s have. What I liked was they served locally sourced sausages which were really tasty. Pastries were also good. There were a lot of tables but there were also a lot of guests. There was a very large tour group one morning when I was there and it made breakfast a bit tight but hey that’s just part and parcel of travelling!

They had a simple system in place. There was a card which was red on one side and green on the other. Red was occupied, and green meant the table was available. Reminds me of a churrascaria restaurant!
