No we are not. There is a nuanced difference. If the aircraft flying from HND to Tokyo returns to HND then the part I have bolded would actually occur as that aircraft would be on the ground from 9AM to 1AM the next day. They are not going to leave two aircraft parked at ORD for 16 - 20 hours.
If the same aircraft were to be used for HND-ORD-HND, it would be parked at ORD for 16:25.
If the same aircraft were to operate NRT-ORD-NRT, it would be parked at ORD for 20:30.
So, yes, JAL will use the incoming HND frame to fly to NRT and the incoming NRT frame to fly to HND to avoid having to park two airplanes in Chicago for between 16 hours 25 minutes and 20 hours 30 minutes.
