I’d say 250k is common / normal. Bur depending on when you’re flying, how much flexibility you have, you can probably find saver awards for 80k or 100k awards.

Can you fly on a Tuesday or Wednesday? Are you looking at peak Tokyo travel season? (Trying to go during Cherry Blossom time?). Are you based out of SFO or looking at starting at another airport?
