Stayed at the Grand Hyatt KL over the holidays for about a week and wanted to capture some details/suggestions for anyone looking at a future stay.
- Getting there for KLIA: We took the flat rate car/taxi service from the airport that’s available outside the arrival lounge. There are kiosks inside the arrival/baggage area but their rates are higher. Total was around MYR 200 or so and they accept payment via credit card.
- Hotel: Overall, the hotel and staff are great and very welcoming. The club floor rooms are spacious and laid out more as an executive apartment than a typical hotel room, with separate walk-in closet, etc. About the only issue we had was figuring out the lights as there are way too many switches in different place. Lounge breakfast and evening service was decent with a variety of items, including western and Malaysian offerings.
- Getting around on foot: Going to the nearby Suria KLCC mall is fairly straightforward and takes a few minutes. As someone mentioned in an earlier post, there’s a tunnel you can use to get to the mall and the convention center park. This worked well when it was raining or just too hot to walk outdoors. The tunnel is accessible via the convention center building next door. The KLCC-Bukit Bintang elevated walkway from the convention center is another great option for exploring other nearby areas and shopping centers.
- Going places: For places further away, grab works well and is quite inexpensive. We used it for going to the Islamic art museum, Batu caves (get dropped off at gate 3 and arrange pickup at the same), Botanical garden, bird park, etc. and never had to wait more than a few minutes for it. Typical fares were in the 20-30 MYR range.
- Return trip to KLIA: Due to early morning flight, we weren’t able to use the train. Hotel offered limo transportation at 500+ MYR (cheapest option) so we just booked grab. Total was 120 MYR with a generous tip.
