Well, that's the point, isn't it? Tying revenue to elite benefits and rewards, tighter and tighter.

My argument is that it's window dressing and a fig leaf compared to other changes in the program over the past decade (on both the earn and burn side). AS is very far down the same road that all the other airlines are going down.

If it lets you sleep at night where things are now, good for you, but we're well on the way there already and you're saying "oh this isn't that bad". I submit that there's probably other things AS can do can keep that "a mile flown is a mile earned*" going, that tie the program tighter to what elites contribute in revenue. They're not done yet.

Not really, no. I do like that my AMEX Platinum is effectively $200 of free DL airfare every year and 10 visits to a lounge though. Makes it quite easy to be a casual DL flier (which keeps DL happy because they get some business).
