I'm seeing PE-lowest YVR-SYD for CAD$1900 in mid-May, but the return leg is closer to $3500.
Dates I need are coming out to ~$6,500 rt vs ~$2,700 for a Comfort fare.
The only tangible advantage I see between AC's Economy Plus that they mislabel as Premium Economy and preferred Y seating, is the increased chance of winning at Aerolotto.
