This is new to me, it might not be for some other people but I just want to tell the story and confirm. When booking an eco ticket with Avianca, if ticket fare class does not have baggage included, you won't get Star* benefit of free checked baggage either. You need to buy a ticket fare that includes a checked bag, then you will get 1 extra checked bag for the benefit of Star Gold.

This happened to my friend at JFK airport yesterday, he paid very expensive price for the bag and carried on 250$ total (twice more than ticket price itself, ridiculous) . And I have a flight tomorrow, a similar case to his so I went online and buy a checked bag now, paid 125$ for checked bag and my flight ticket cost me 120$. This is something bizaar and it's so expensive to the point almost unacceptable. 40$ checked bag is enough but 125$? which more than ticket itself. Not to mention this is supposed to be a 'discounted' price for buying online. I can't imagine how much it would cost to buy at the airport.

Is there any other airline, that sells this kind of eco ticket that does not include the benefit? I can't think of one but maybe there is some airline that Im not familiar with like Lufthansa with the cheapest fare ticket also included or not?

If you educate me I ll remember this exception so I can avoid the trap in the future. Thank you very much and sorry for my English.
