Winterthur is pretty cool, as it's a very non-touristy live city. St. Gallen has a lot more going for it though. There's also a stand selling bratwursts at the train station that has some of the best in Switzerland.

As far as Liechtenstein. I really wouldn't bother with it unless I had a car. But if you have a car, go up to Triesenburg.
Good to know the ease of transportation to these places. Re Bodensee, how about Bregenz, Lindau & Friedrichshafen (I know, OT)?

I'd like to spend 3 to 4 hours at each place and stay after sunset before return to base (assume it is Zurich), how should I sequence them? Any recommendation for local food (except fondue) and restaurants, including in Zurich?
