An update with what actually happened to us: there were no signs for checked through baggage or signs to a dedicated checked bags lane. We had to go all the way out and go to the normal check-in desks to hand over our luggage and then through standard security.
We had the same experience on Tuesday. Followed the flight connections signs from baggage reclaim which just took us back into the main terminal - then upstairs to the regular check in and security.
Flying Tampa-Miami-Heathrow in a week’s time. I’m assuming this time the bags will not need to be collected and we can remain airside at MIA?
