This misinformation seems common with AF. I think their information systems for luggage aren't great, or they just very often end up doing something else in practice than was planned.
Last month, I travelled AMS-CDG-MAD, and then from MAD onward to Latin America. My suitcase was left in CDG while I was already in MAD, in the evening. When I asked to have my suitcase sent to my destination, I was told me the suitcase would be sent to MAD first thing in the morning and was already tagged for that flight so they couldn't make any changes. In reality, it spent the entire next day in CDG, was sent to MAD and then back to CDG in the evening, and was then sent to my actual destination from CDG. If it wasn't for the airtag in my suitcase, I wouldn't know about most of this, obviously.
I get that they couldn't send it from MAD to my destination since there's no direct AF flight, but was it really necessary to send it to Spain just to send it back, and wait half a day to do that?
