Can you beat this?

On 30 December 2016, I was flying back from Sardinia via Stuttgart (STR) when a massive snowstorm swept across Europe, wreaking havoc on travel plans. My hopes of making it back to London on time for New Year’s Eve dwindled, and I feared I’d end up ringing in the New Year in an airport hotel room.

Dinner at the airport seemed like the most reasonable option under the circumstances, didn’t it? Fortunately, BA agreed to cover the meal—although they didn’t cover the alcohol (if I remember correctly).

I decided to dine at Top Air, the world’s only Michelin-starred restaurant located within an airport at the time. It turned out to be a memorable experience, even in such an unexpected situation.

As luck would have it, my flight on 31 December was cancelled as well. After some quick thinking and rebooking, I managed to secure a First Class train journey back to London—arriving just in time for my New Year’s Eve dinner plans.

Cool video
