I am Qatar Platinum coming on my 3rd year now I think and live chat and whatsapp were useless. I really thought I would get some expediated or more personalized support. I had no one reach out to me via cell phone, email, whatsapp or text until the one phone call I got at 3ish PM the next day today. I was not given any options. There was no acknowledgement of status. No airline is perfect and emergency diversions are complicated, however because it is a complicated and difficult situation they should be proactive. I am not sure why we got text notifications that the next update was at 8am and then 2pm but then receive no updates at all. I spoke with passengers who did not sleep at all because they kept on waiting for the promised update and was afraid they would oversleep.

My younger self with an unworthy passport would have been consigned to uncertainty, probably stuck to the airport.
Having traversed T4S to T4 at Madrid, we found buses waiting for us. An hour after landing we were in line at the hotel for check in and in a room shortly after. dinner and breakfast were provided. Information via the app or email was scarce, but reception suggested a noon departure the next day. Sure enough buses collected at us and at MAD the re-scheduled flight had its own chaotic line. I used my gold status to get checked in but there was no time to use the lounge. Ultimately the flight took off well after the re-scheduled time.
It seems like they did a somewhat better job in that instance. When you guys arrived, did they announce "Welcome to Madrid! Please pick up your baggage at claim #."? That was all we were told upon disembarking.
