I may sound defeatist but aren't natural monopolies the norm in post-pandemic international flying?
I equate Brits whinging about BA stranglehold in LHR with Aussies' whinging about QF/JQ stranglehold in SYD/MEL with (perhaps to a lesser extent, but not if you're a family) CX/UO stranglehold in HKG.
I use natural monopoly rather than national champion or flag carrier, because they enjoy the economic benefits but shirk from the obligations of national champion/flag carrier.
