Doubletree by Hilton London Angel Kings Cross
Stayed here on two occasions recently (for Newcastle United football matches vs Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal). Picked this hotel due to its proximity to Kings Cross Station.
The hotel is a 15 min walk (uphill) from Kings Cross Railway Station. We booked King Deluxe rooms on both occasions and were upgraded via the app to King Executive rooms three days prior to each stay.
Reception staff welcoming on arrival.
Friday 3 January 2025 - Room 426: King Executive
Selected on the app during check-in previous day as the room pick of the hotel - no end rooms available. Looks exactly as picture shown on hotel website. Spotlessly clean, furnishings in good order, large TV. Small bathroom with shower. Standard Crabtree and Evelyn wall mounted hand wash etc - no additional upgraded toiletries. Refrigerator, kettle, tea/coffee sachets provided. No biscuits.
No welcome treat, water, or bathrobes in the room on arrival. Contacted reception and these were subsequently provided.
This is one of the rooms with a mock balcony, located in the front centre of the hotel and is near to the lifts. There were noise issues from guests in the corridor sporadically until around 01:00 hrs. Room was otherwise quiet - did not hear our neighbours either side and minimal outside traffic noise.
Tuesday 7 January 2025 - Room 531: King Executive
Selected on the app during check-in previous day. Spotlessly clean, furnishings in good order, large TV. An end room with a larger entrance lobby area and slightly smaller width bedroom. Small bathroom with shower. Standard Crabtree and Evelyn wall mounted hand wash etc - no additional upgraded toiletries. Refrigerator, kettle, tea/coffee sachets provided. No biscuits.
No welcome treat or bathrobes in the room on arrival. Water provided. Asked at reception and bathrobes subsequently sent to room.
Windows smaller in fifth floor rooms. Extremely quiet - no noise whatsoever.
Breakfast
Served in main restaurant. Hot items: bacon, sausage, hash browns, tomatoes, beans, and scrambled egg, also porridge. Cold offerings included choice of cereals, breads, meat, cheese, fruit, and juice. There was also a toaster, pancake maker and coffee machine.
Saturday: breakfast also available in the Executive Lounge, and spread was much like the restaurant offering on a smaller scale.
Wednesday: went into the Executive Lounge at around 09.40 hrs, just prior to checking out. No evidence of breakfast - could have been cleared though.
Executive Lounge
Very small - 15 seats (including two settees) with tables, and 4 high stools around a table. Two windows.
Coffee machine, tea bags, water dispenser and soft drinks. Soft drinks were all Britvic – no Pepsi/Coca Cola brands offered. Milk for coffee in refrigerator.
Food during the day:
3 January - did not arrive at the hotel until around 18:00 hrs.
7 January - a few healthy snack bars, some kind of nutty mix in a jar and bags of salt and vinegar crisps. Dispenser containing orange juice.
Evening between 18:00 hrs and 20:00 hrs:
Alcoholic Drinks
Spirits: Vodka and Gin. Wine: choice of two white and one red. Bottles of Budweiser.
Food
3 January
Hot chorizo and peppers tapas (hubby said was delicious)
Hot edamame beans (I think) in pods
Crudités, hummus, nachos
Small pots of Greek salad
Tray bake size portions of chocolate brownies
Salt and vinegar crisps
Lounge very quiet and pleasant.
7 January
Hot chicken and? tapas
Hot edamame beans (I think) in pods
Crudités, hummus, nachos
Large dish containing salad with dressing
Tray bake size portions of carrot cake
Salt and vinegar crisps
Arrived at the lounge around 18:05 hrs and it was standing room only! No hot chicken tapas were left and during the short duration we were there (20 minutes) they were replenished at least three times and demolished immediately! Several people took their food and drink next door to the bar where there were empty seats. We did not have any food.
Area around Hotel
We did not explore the local area. There is a frequent bus service from outside the hotel. Parking is at the rear of the hotel - only a couple of spaces out front. Booked an Uber to take us from the hotel to the Emirates Stadium (approx £10) and walked back without any problem - took us around 40 minutes. Did not look for the Angel underground station.
Would we stay again? Yes - but we would also like to try the Hilton Angel Islington.
