1. I enjoyed the view suite (bay view from both bedroom and living room). Service was quick, everyone was polite, they accomodated a couple special service requests I had.
2. Horrible "manager's special" in the evening -- broken potatoe chips with a couple dips, popcorn, undrinkable Inglenook Cabernet as the red wine offering, inexcusable in the middle of Monterey wine country.
3. Excellent Am omelette and overall breakfast buffet (by US standards -- I'm not counting European breakfast buffets at Hiltons). And even though there were many kids, the atrium waterfalls noise and airy open feel made it tolerable and quieter. Less oppressive than the screaming kids at the SF downtown Hilton pseudo-executive lounge. A little loud in the early evening, given the big atrium, a band playing awful music in the evening on the first floor could be heard in my room on the 7th floor.
4. Very easy access to Monterey restaurants, Pacific Grove restaurants, Monterey attractions 10 minute drive.
5. easy on/off Highway 1.
6. good value overall if you need to be in that area and want Hilton points/stay credit, epsecially if with a family.
I'm right there with you. How in the he** can you serve crapola like that and be smack dab in the middle of the wine country. I know, I know, what do you expect for free....well, it depends. Am I at Motel 6 or am I at an Embassy Suites?
Fortunately, we had purchased a few bottles of wine from local wineries and I opened my own! Too bad when you have to open your own bottle though. It would be like being in Hershey PA and they sell generic chocolate bars!
This is actually a pet peeve of mine. 95% of the time, I pass on the beer and wine because it is Inglenook or worse (can you get worse?) or Bud. No thanks...not worth the calories!
Having said that, I LOVE this hotel. It just out of the way and only a mile and a half to Monterey. We sat out on our balcony every a.m and had breakfast. I had great runs on the beach...not very far to get there. The rooms on the top floor had just been renevated and they were really nice. New furniture, new carpet, new paint, etc.
I liked being able to jump into the conference center and check my email (I didn't have my laptop because I was not working)...for free!
Love this place!
