While you are correct about the small but pristine terminal, I have to correct the rest of your assertion.
There are flights to TSA, not TPE ( and it has always been that way).
There are also flights to KIX, PEK, PKX, SHA, and KHH ( although that last one may only be a couple of times a week.
It is not that deserted any more.
