But since all trains from BCN to Sevilla run through Madrid, perhaps Toledo? closer to half way. Enough to see, do for a couple days. Yes, that could be a day trip from Madrid, but if the goal is to break up the trip, seems to fit.
If the goal is to find an interesting place along the route without backtracking, then yes, I agree, Cordoba fits perfectly.
there are direct trains from Barcelona to Seville. I have tickets on one in just a couple weeks. 1 early morning arrives at 2ish and another afternoon arrives at 21ish
