With the announcement that IAH will be closed on Tuesday, I would absolutely avoid IAH on Wednesday. Not only is there a greater than usual chance of a cancelation — UA may not be able to get its staff to the airport to operate flights — but they’re going to have an entire day’s worth of O&D passengers to try to re-accommodate. IAH will likely be a zoo even in the best case.
Think of it as generating karma by freeing up two seats for IAH O&D passengers to use.
Good points re the ground transport recovery and concern for 2 stranded travelers who will be getting my vacated seats (bonus that the seats were in F). I hope the good karma extends to my re-booked flights through ORD.
