We are on BA209 connecting through to AA925 in J, which currently has a roughly 2 hour transfer; so already tight I feel. From what I can see, there is a flight 1 hour later AA995 but J seems to be full. If we do get rebooked onto that flight and dropped down to PE, would UK261 apply as the delay/missed flight would be due to the original BA delay?
On that journey you should be able to get bags through checked through a process called ITI - see other threads here about it, but it's important to get the ITI tag on the bags.

If downgraded then yes it is in scope for Mennens, since it's a EU to Brazil trip, as well as potentially compensation for delay, depending on the cause. The separate flight issue is what it is, but usually IGU flights are relatively inexpensive, albeit perhaps meaning an awkward trip to another airport. There are coach services between GRU and VCP or CGH (and SJK but the flights go the wrong direction from there).
