It’s not a bright room at night, but there are lights - and admittedly, now that I’m thinking about it, I don’t look at my keyboard while I’m typing, so technically, I can type in the dark, I guess.

As for the neighborhood, there are a lot of touristy shops (think PopMart, H&M, etc), but around the hotel, there were a lot of local eateries (the kind where folks eat on the sidewalk) and individual shops specializing in a single type of good (noticed one selling bar stools and another selling fans).
