When is an upgrade not an upgrade?

Slightly tongue in cheek, but... if you book a room - say a King Classic - at an IC and you have a lounge pass, does an upgrade to a "Club King Classic" count as an upgrade in the terms of the Ambassador program, even though there is potentially no discernible difference to what you had before?

A few weeks out from my stay I've been assigned this category of room (I'm a Diamond Ambassdor with the lounge pass). I'm not assuming it's considered an upgrade - I know some hotels do this as it makes handling the lounge pass / club access easier - but it did make me consider what actually construes an upgrade...
