Sorry, I should have specified, this is when the 789 is used on ultra-longhaul sectors where there is need for a full complement of additional flight crew. On shorter 789 routes, the crew rest seats are not required.
Well, they aren’t “required” as the flight crew have bunks on the 789 but it is something that was agreed some time ago by the unions and has stuck, despite there being no real need for them.
