2) i also have a problem the arguments that go in the nature of since others are doing it, we should follow, or that if something was successful and profitable elsewhere, then any similar initiatives will be a good idea. yes, im aware that US airlines have moved towards a revenue-based model. but this doesnt mean that it will suit BA (due to being in a different continent and subjected to different regulations) nor that it will make BA competitive. few US customers are going to choose BA simply because you have a ffp that is familar to them. what is the competitive advantage here? what will make them choose BA over the US airlines. and as in my previous post, there dont seem to be any. it maybe a natural progression, but blindly copying will not get the intended outcome. this is why some companies prosper and some fail. one good example is the LCC in US vs those in the UK. ryanair and easy jet appears to be doing well, but US LCCs are struggling.
you also mentioned about how you lost little business after raising prices 87%. i have experienced this as well. but this is an example, not a rule. the context matters. e.g. in your case, there maybe no better alternatives despite the price increase, but this is unlikely to be true in BA's case. i have also raised prices many times without much negative impact, especially during the covid period. in my case, we are often the last to raise prices and we remain one of the cheapest options despite the price increase. as such, such examples cannot be extrapolated to say that BA will be fine after raising prices.
much like the claims of AI modelling without evidence ( which I do not want to revisit) it is the attribution of higher intelligence and knowledge, without evidence, that runs counter to the actual lived experience and even recent experience such as brunchgate.
