On another note, personally, I fail to see that 'maximizing $' part of this. Maybe with a drink or two where you don't normally while in F, and everyone is certainly entitled to their own opinion, but Im not sure airline snack boxes/food, particularly on UA, or any US-based airline for that matter, is where I'd aim to maximize.
I generally agree with your opinion on this, but the one thing I'll side with the OP on is like, if there's snacks in the galley, I might take one for now and then chuck one in my backpack. Not always, but I like having a couple snacks in my travel bag and if I can avoid paying for it, I'd prefer that. I'm talking like another thing of peanuts or pretzles whatever, not a snack box though.
