Agree that Marriott needs to look at Hilton's OLCI. Best part of the Hilton app is that you can choose a very specific room - even if local law requires them to verify your ID you still get the room you have chosen at Hilton.
That's a really good point I didn't think to mention in the original post. My days as Hilton Diamond have long since lapsed to "bottom feeder" status and yet online check-in and room selection seem to work 90% of the time.
