Not a pilot but lots of experience in both ATR and not the Q400 but dash 8s. The ATR has different sets of problems and know an operator who used both and they would any day have the dash 8-300 over the ATR. Funnily enough the pilots tell me that the dash 8 has a fantastic undercarriage compared to the ATR.
I personally don’t think it’s a design fault and could be tire issues of rethreads as another OP has mentioned or just pure maintenance issue of not inspecting the tire diligently or an extremely heavy landing?
