YYJ - > YVR is a 12 minute flight. And yes, this one particular flight is a CR9; 99.999% of the YYJ-YVR flights are Dash-8's. I've never seen a CR9 on this route actually, but this flight is. so 12 minutes in business, and the other 17 hours in economy. Yeah, an extra 110K points for 12 minutes on a CR9 is obviously a bogus business redemption.

Even worse is when the redemption level greatly exceeds the value of the cash purchase of the seat. How is that even a thing? Example: YVR -> AKL, December 26th 2025. Zero business class seats sold, reward price is 318,000 points (business, one way). Cash price? $4990. How much do they sell points for to customers, regular price? about 3 cents a point. So clearly the reward ticket isn't even being offered at face value of the points. That's more than $10,000 of purchased reward points. This would be like buying a $250 gift card and it only can be used to purchase $125 of merchandise. It's ow are just like cash except half the buying power.

At least the united 7 and 30 day calendars, although not accurate for Aeroplan redemptions, appear to only show the lowest points tickets that have the majority of travel available in the selected class of travel. This is much more useful that any of Air Canada's aeroplan tools.

Of course, the flip side to offering better rewards ticket tools would be that everybody would have access to the tools and the same number of seats would be available. So, it really wouldn't help. There is no technical reason why they can't offer tools like: alert me when flights between XXX and YYY with no more than 2 connections are available in class X for not more than Z points. Obviously they could do that, but it doesn't increase share holder value, so it's never happening.

Or alert me when any direct flights from YVR to Europe on any Star Alliance airline are available for 7 day trips during this time period, in this class, for some maximum number of points. Nope. The tools are never going to happen. No motivation by the airlines.
