The crazy part is that Hilton manages to get this right 80+% of the time and has for years. Even in hotels where I'm a foreigner and need to provide a passport, the app can handle it fine and I can still go directly to my room without stopping at the front desk. (This is probably not true for every country but at least for some, it is.)
Sometimes i use it when my NUA has been canceled when doing the foreigner passport ID check in, then i have time to ask for a large corner room suite with FD folks as they process my passport.
Amazing how they will search for rooms, & if there are none, i just say il wait in the EL till a good room is ready.
