Do you still have the paper bag tags? If so, look at them carefully to see whether they contain information on the weight of the bag. (Some do.) Also, some airline policies require that an overweight tag/ribbon be added to overweight bags, but I don't know whether AC has such a rule to help baggage handlers avoid injury.
