probably 95% of my stays are across europe and id say online check in is useful only for being made aware of when my room is ready (before the official 3pm check in time) -- now obviously this does not work 100% of the time but a vast majority in my experience.

but im not sure if the app would tell me even if i had not done mobile check in? but thats at least what i use it for.
