Nothing's Changed!
I flew RAM over 20 years ago. Here's my experience:
We left NYC and landed in Casablanca to connect and pick up some passengers -- then head to our final destination, Marrakesh. After sitting in the airport for an hour, we learned the reason we weren't boarding was because a member of the royal family didn't want to go to Marrakesh. He wanted to go to Fez. The airline gate agents were arguing with the family member while the rest of us stood there. Some of the passengers were trying to reason with the family member in French not to divert the flight, but nothing was being accomplished.
At some point, a passenger was able to get a hold of the CEO of RAM. Eventually, the CEO was able to convince the flight crew to continue their flight to Marrakesh. We all boarded and got to Marrakesh an hour later than expected.
I don't know what we (or the airline) would have done if the passenger hadn't gotten a hold of the CEO. Our hotel, car..entire vacation was booked in Marrakesh. The fact the flight crew entertained this joker for an hour and was considering a reroute of the flight to Fez was astonishing.
