Ultra top tier matches are far more common than you would think - but they happen discretely behind the scenes. LH-HON have matched some of my colleagues who are also GGLFL but whose work patterns changed to involve more LH travel. With the US carriers it's very common, as others have said above with the AA-CK and UA-GS matches, and more recently, Delta 360 and AA-CK.

Don't worry about the numbers being diluted - I can say with some confidence that there won't be as many as people are worried about. For a lot of GGL's (including me), having non-stop connectivity from London for work travel reasons is an overriding factor when it comes to booking tickets. That, and also our corporate travel team have strong relationships with BA and me booking an AFKL ticket to the Middle East / India / Far East will automatically be flagged.
