Fullerton

5 Star - US$300 upwards, (advance booking) plus service charge and GST (9%). (Could be less as part of a package).

There is also a “Straits Club” package which offers a lot of pampering but is correspondingly more expensive.

There are three Fullertons all quite close to each other, The Fullerton, The Fullerton Bay and One Fullerton. This is for The Fullerton.

The hotel is the Old General Post Office (and a National Monument) which also had other municipal functions. Originally built in 1928, it had a hollow atrium which has now been covered over for the lobby plus food and beverage. For my money, architecturally, sits one down from Raffles.

You’re close to Boat Quay, bars and food. Certainly not fine dining, but if you’ve just arrived from a northern hemisphere winter, its great to sit outside by the river at one of the Boat Quay eateries. (You’ll need to be prepared to run the gauntlet of touts trying to get you into their establishments, not a typical Singapore experience I would add).

Two pubs at the start of Boat Quay, (or as close to pubs as Singapore gets), they’re not your “Asian” experience, mostly ex-pats and tourists, but if you like a pint at the end of the day, and/or mid-level gastro pub food, the hotel is just a few minute’s walk away. Circular Road close by offers more dining and pub experiences and if you just want a Big Mac (I’m not judging) that’s close as well.

If you want exercise, (suggest dawn and dusk only), it’s a nice walk from there to Gardens by the Bay and if there are no events closing it, you can wander down to, and along, the pit lane on the Marina Bay Circuit which quite a treat if F1 is your thing. For other locations, you're on both the green and red lines for getting around which is very easy.

Its close to the central business district.

If shopping and fine dining is your thing, you’d need to take transport. A station for the green and red line is about four minutes’ walk away. I think there would be better stays for a family break in Singapore, though with the infinity pool, which isn’t as large as some, you see families there who are enjoying the experience. Great views of the city at sunset. (That said, the pool at the Fullerton Bay across the road is better).

The main issue which holds some folk back is probably the price.
